Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team hosts the College of Charleston Cougars Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at 3 p.m.
The Spartans will be playing inside the friendly confines of the Hodge Center for the first time in a week after playing their past two games on the road. The last time Upstate appeared at home it cruised to a 75-36 victory over Converse in its home opener.
The contest is the first of two straight at home for the Spartans. Following the game with the Cougars, Upstate takes on South Carolina State Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
The Spartans will look to snap a two-game losing streak Sunday afternoon after falling at High Point and second-ranked Duke on Nov. 13 and 14. Brittany Starling and Sharmayne Edwards each scored 19 points in Upstate's midweek opener to lead the team offensively. Starling finished just one rebound shy of a double-double for the second straight game. Maddie Herr tied her career-high in points at Duke as she led the team with 10 points.
College of Charleston comes in 1-2 on the season after falling on the road Thursday night against No. 22 South Carolina 81-54. The Cougars are led by second-year head coach Natasha Adair. She currently holds a 17-18 all-time record as a coach.
The all-time series between the two teams dates back to the 1979-80 season. College of Charleston leads the series 14-1. The Spartans won their first meeting last season in Charleston by a score of 73-62 at TD Arena. The two teams have not met in Spartanburg since 1988-89 when the Cougars won 87-61.
