Copney Named College Sports Madness Conference Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior guard Tee'Ara Copney (Asheville, N.C.) of the USC Upstate women's basketball team was named the College Sports Madness Atlantic Sun Player of the Week after leading the Spartans to a 2-0 week in conference play, sweeping Lipscomb and Belmont in the Hodge Center.

Copney posted her 16th double-digit scoring effort this season with 15 points against Belmont Jan. 21. She led the Spartans in scoring for the 14th time this year as they downed the Bruins 61-51, extending the Spartan winning-streak to three games. The guard snagged five rebounds and swiped two steals against Belmont to go along with one assist.

In the Spartans' 73-66 victory over Lipscomb Jan. 19, Copney tallied a game-high 24 points, marking her fifth 20-plus-point outing. The junior collected a career-high eight steals against the Lady Bison, while pulling down six boards and handing out a game-high six assists.

On the week, Copney averaged 19.5 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per contest. She dished out 3.5 assists a game, while grabbing 5.0 steals an outing. She shot 40.0 percent from the floor and 30.0 percent from behind the arc. She was a perfect 12-for-12 from the charity stripe, helping the Spartans to an 83.3 percent week at the line.
