Dr. Oliver Trittenwein is in his third season as head coach of the men's and women's tennis teams at USC Upstate in 2012-13. 

In Trittenwien's second year at the helm of the Spartans' tennis programs he recorded 19 combined wins and eight A-Sun victories. He coached Ramiro Blanco to First-Team All-Conference honors and All-Tournament honors on the men's side, while Isabel von Stryk was named Second-Team All-conference and earned All-Freshman honors on the women's side.

In his first season at the helm of the Spartan tennis program, Trittenwein had a total of five players named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference team.  Ramiro Blanco was a first-team selection, while Ana-Sofia Camberos, Matias Di Pasquale and Marco Linconir picked up second-team honors.  Gonzalo Blanco rounded out the A-Sun Honorees as an All-Freshman selection.

Trittenwein guided the men's team to a third-place finish in the A-Sun as they finished 12-11 overall and 8-2 in conference play.  The men's squad closed out the 2011 campaign with nine wins in their final 11 matches.

Prior to arriving in Spartanburg, Trittenwein was the head men's tennis coach at the University of Texas-San Antonino.  Trittenwein spent 12 seasons at the helm of the Roadrunners tennis program before resigning to pursue other opportunities.  During his 12 seasons at UTSA, Trittenwein’s teams won a total of 133 matches.

Trittenwein led UTSA to its first two championships in school history — the 2001 regular season and 2002 Southland Tournament — and a spot in the 2002 NCAA Championships. He was named the 2001 Southland Coach of the Year in only his second season after he led the Roadrunners to a 13-11 overall record and perfect 6-0 mark in league contests. In 2002, Trittenwein’s club upset top-seed UT Arlington in the conference tournament to advance to the national tournament for the first time in school history.

In his first three seasons (2000-02), Trittenwein led the Roadrunners to a 14-2 mark in Southland play, which was the second-best mark in the circuit during that span.

Under his tutelage, Frederik Darmont earned 2000 Southland Newcomer of the Year honors and three Roadrunners — Jonas Hoglund (2003), Andre Moreira (2006) and Rodrigo Morgado (2007) — have been named the conference’s Freshman of the Year. Trittenwein has used his knowledge abroad to recruit 17 student-athletes who have earned first-team all-league honors and 15 others that have been named to the circuit’s second team.

In Fall 2004, Trittenwein helped oversee a major renovation project that transformed the UTSA Tennis Center into one of the top facilities in the Southwest. The complex underwent a face lift that included upgraded stands, covered seating for spectators, court resurfacing, new fencing, new wind screens, locker rooms and coaches office improvements.

The 2005 campaign saw the Roadrunners post 16 victories — their most since joining the Southland in 1992 — and UTSA posted a 4-2 record in league matches. Hetori Chaves (singles), Ricardo Almeida (doubles) and Dennis Andrade (doubles) earned first-team all-conference honors following the successful season.

Trittenwein began his UTSA career an assistant coach under Becky Roberts and was in charge of the men’s program during the 1998-99 season. One year later, he was promoted to head men’s coach.

A native of Johannesburg, South Africa, he played for Texas-Pan American from 1987-91. Trittenwein earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from UTPA in 1991 and then received his master’s degree in industrial/organizational psychology from St. Mary’s University in 1993.

Trittenwein earned his doctorate degree in sports & exercise psychology from West Virginia in 1998. While at West Virginia, he served as the men’s assistant coach during the 1994-95 season, and the following year, he was a volunteer assistant for the Mountaineers men’s and women’s tennis programs.

He has served as a teaching pro at the Hunters Creek Tennis Club in San Antonio and also is a member of the United States Tennis Association and the United States Professional Tennis Registry as a certified professional instructor.

Trittenwein and his wife, Kimberly, are the proud parents of twin daughters, Isabella and Grace.
