Buies Creek, N.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped a non-conference decision on Saturday afternoon as the Spartans fell to the Campbell Camels 6-1 from Nisbet Tennis Center.

Upstate falls to 2-3 on the season while Campbell improves to 5-1 overall.

"Full credit to Campbell," said assistant coach Tim McLane. "We dropped a close doubles point and then they came out and jumped all over us to start singles. We've got another tough team tomorrow in UNC Wilmington, and we need to respond and compete the way we are capable of."

The Camels captured the doubles point after earning victories at both the No. 2 and No. 3 matches to take a 1-0 lead over the Spartans. Ankush Arora and Lenhard Haupt gave Upstate a win at No. 1 doubles as they defeated Dustin Werner and Lorenz Schwab 6-4.

Campbell followed by winning five of the six singles matches to earn the 6-1 victory. Haupt picked up his second straight singles victory after winning in straight sets over Schwab at the No. 4 position 6-0, 6-4. Fernando Bernardes, playing at No. 3 singles, fought back and forced a third set in his match, but fell 0-6, 6-2, 3-6.

The Spartans continue their three-match road trip on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. versus UNC Wilmington.
