Upstate Prepares for Weekend Matches at Campbell, UNC Wilmington

The USC Upstate men's tennis team is back on the road this weekend in the state of North Carolina for a pair of matches against the Campbell Camels and UNC Wilmington Seahawks.

Upstate begins its two-match weekend on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. against Campbell and travels to UNC Wilmington on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match.

The Spartans have won their last two matches highlighted by a 6-1 victory over crosstown rival Wofford in their home opener on Feb. 3. Upstate got off to a hot start in doubles play, easily picking up the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The Spartans continued to roll in singles play, winning five of the six matches, all of which came in straight sets.

Fernando Bernardes and Ignacio Garrido secured the doubles point for Upstate with their 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot, while Neto gave the Spartans the match victory with his 7-5, 6-2 triumph at No. 5 singles.

Neto and Felix Ewers are both undefeated this year to start singles play with a 4-0 record as Ewers plays at the No. 1 slot and Neto has two wins at No. 5. In doubles play, the combination of Bernardes and Garrido are 3-0.

Campbell currently sits at 4-1 on the season and has won its last three matches over Morgan State, Chowan and Barton. The Camels began the season with a 6-1 victory against Bucknell. UNC Wilmington enters the weekend with a 2-2 overall record after earning wins over Appalachian State and Gardner-Webb.

The Spartans are off until Friday, February 24 when it travels to Greenville for a 3 p.m. match at Furman.
