Upstate Sweeps Singles in Victory Over Mercer

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team earn its fourth win in its last six matches following a 6-1 victory over Mercer Friday afternoon from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.

Mercer won all three doubles matches to come away with the point and an early 1-0 lead, but Upstate responded by taking all six singles matches to claim its seventh straight victory over the Bears.

Jamie Yates won the first singles match of the day and tied the score 1-1 following his 6-2, 6-2 victory over Austin Emmet from the No. 4 position. Senior Matthias Kidler followed with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Oliver Snaider at No. 1 to give the Spartans a 2-1 advantage.

Gonzalo Blanco captured a 6-2, 6-2 win over Anderson Scarpa at No. 3 to put Upstate ahead 3-1, while Yvon Haessig clinched the match when he turned in a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Arsav Mohanty at No. 6.

Upstate also received a 1-6, 7-5, 10-6 win from Ramon Simonetti at No. 2 over Arnav Mohanty, and Rajanvir Dharni won at No. 5 following an injury to Manuel De Luis.

Upstate closes the regular season Saturday at 2 p.m. when the Spartans host Kennesaw State on Senior Day from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
