SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team was unable to pick up a weekend sweep as the Spartans dropped a 4-3 decision to nationally ranked Stetson Saturday at the Upstate Tennis Complex.

The Spartans claimed the doubles point as Matthias Kidler/Ramiro Blanco and Tyler Grove/Jacob Darling claimed victory at doubles No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.  Kidler/Blanco defeated the duo of Njal Stene and Adrian Riseng, 8-1, while Grove and Darling posted an 8-4 victory over Maksim Levanovich and Chester Espie.

The Spartans were unable to hang on as Stetson claimed four of the six singles matches.  It is the first time this year and eighth time of D-I era that Upstate has dropped a match when winning the doubles point.

Matthias Kidler (singles No. 2) and Gonzalo Blanco (No. 3) were the only Spartans to pick up victories Saturday.  Kidler picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Didrik Berg, followed by a 6-1, 6-1 win by Blanco.

Both Ramiro Blanco (No. 1) and Yvon Haessig (No. 5) dropped three-set matches to their Hatter opponents.

The Spartans will return to action next weekend as they travel to Nashville, Tenn., to face conference foes Belmont (Fri., 1 p.m. [CT]) and Lipscomb (Sat., 2 p.m. [CT]).
