Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team will be back in action Tuesday night when it makes the trip down I-85 to battle nationally-ranked Clemson at 7:00 p.m. at Riggs Field.
Upstate comes into the meeting after not playing since a tough battle against Wofford last Wednesday. The Spartans stand 0-4-1 on the year. Clemson, which is ranked 13th in the NSCAA/adidas Top 25 poll, 19th in the College Soccer News Top 25 poll and 20th in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25 poll, is 6-1-0 after dropping a 3-1 decision to ACC rival Maryland over the weekend. The Tigers had allowed just one goal in six previous matches prior to the loss against the Terps.
Upstate and Clemson will meet for the 12th time in the all-time series which dates back to the 1981 season. The Spartans, then the USC Spartanburg Rifles, claimed a 1-1 tie against Clemson in 1983 when the Tigers were ranked No. 2 in the country. Upstate and Clemson have played three times since Upstate made the move to Division I in 2007. The Spartans fell in a close 1-0 game last year at Clemson.
