Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team returns to the friendly confines of County University Soccer Stadium Wednesday night when it plays host to crosstown rival Wofford in a 7:00 p.m. start.
Upstate is coming off a 1-1 tie at Appalachian State Saturday, a tremendous defensive battle that saw each team capitalize with goals in the second half. The Spartans cracked the scoreboard first on a goal from Dave Musambi and with just over 15 minutes to play in regulation, the Mountaineers tied it up. Hassan El-Haddad, getting the first start of his collegiate career, came up with two big saves for Upstate, including one in the second overtime period, to earn the tie.
Upstate stands 0-3-1 on the year entering the match against Wofford. It is the only match on the schedule this week for the Spartans. Wofford stands 2-3-1 on the year. The Terriers lost a pair of one-goal matches to Gardner-Webb and Winthrop to begin the regular season, then fell to 0-3-0 with a loss at Temple. However, Wofford has rebounded with a tie of Saint Joseph's and wins over Liberty and Jacksonville at home.
