Williamsburg, Va. – Behind the solid play from Tyler Comer and a steady performance by Adam Goins, the USC Upstate men's golf team shot a 298 in the final round of the C&F Bank Intercollegiate to move up five spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 14th.
Upstate shot a 2989 and finished with a 54-hole total of 901 in the tournament played on the River Course at Kingsmill. The Spartans finished tied for 14th with Boston College, James Madison and Loyola (Md.). Comer (Spartanburg, S.C.) finished the day with a 72, posting the Spartans' lowest score of the day. Goins (Gaffney, S.C.) carded a 73.
Missouri led wire-to-wire and won the tournament championship with an 870 total. UNC Greensboro and Old Dominion tied for second with an 872 total and were followed in the top 10 by Francis Marion (880), Radford (882), Wright State (886), Eastern Kentucky (889), Winthrop (890), High Point (891) and Appalachian State (892).
William & Mary was 11th at 895 and was followed by IPFW (897), Longwood (900), Upstate (901), Boston College (901), James Madison (901), Loyola (Md.) (901), Western Carolina (902), Georgetown (903) and Delaware (907).
Marquette was 21st with a 911 total and was followed by Drake (916), St. Peter's (920), Bucknell (931), Fairfield (932), Saint Joseph's (949), Washington & Lee (966), St. Francis (Pa.) (967) and Hampton (1069).
Goins finished as the low Spartan in the tournament, claiming a top 20 finish in the field of 150 players. He finished tied for 20th with a 221 total. Comer's 72 moved him within a stroke of Goins, finishing tied for 32nd with a 222 total.
Matthew Hopper (Gaffney, S.C.) finished tied for 71st with a 229 total, ending the tournament with a 77 on Tuesday. Brian Horton (Boiling Springs, S.C.) shot a 76 on Tuesday and claimed a tie for 76th with a 227 total. Daniel Revell (Roswell, Ga.) completed his first tournament playing in the lineup, carding a 78 on Tuesday and finishing the tournament with a 234 total.
Winthrop's Kamito Hirai came from behind to claim the individual championship with a 69 on Tuesday and a 211 total.
