Spartanburg, S.C. – In search of its eighth straight home win, the USC Upstate men's basketball team returns home after a three-game road trip to host Florida Gulf Coast Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Hodge Center.
USC Upstate (15-11, 8-5) enters play in sole possession of third place in the Atlantic Sun standings following a road trip that saw the Spartans go 2-1 with victories over Northern Kentucky and ETSU. After losing a 77-75 heartbreaker Feb. 6 at Lipscomb, Upstate responded two days later with a 76-59 victory at Northern Kentucky to secure the team's first conference road win of the season.
The Spartans put the finishing touches on their road trip with an impressive 75-63 win at ETSU in which both Torrey Craig and Ricardo Glenn tallied double-doubles. Craig finished with 22 points and tied a career-high with 15 rebounds and became only the seventh player in A-Sun history to record 2,000 career points. The Great Falls, S.C., native also upped his career rebound total to 903 and is one of only three A-Sun players all-time with 2,000 points and 900 rebounds. Craig current leads the A-Sun in scoring with 17.1 points per game and stands second with 7.5 rebounds per game.
Glenn turned in his conference best eighth double-double of the season by recording 18 points and 15 rebounds. The Augusta, Ga., native leads the A-Sun in rebounding with 7.8 per game and is also tops in the conference with a .624 field goal percentage. In addition, Glenn is averaging 15.3 points and 11.0 rebounds per game over the last seven games.
Fred Miller tied a career-high with 15 points and dished out eight assists against the Buccaneers and is averaging 6.3 assists per game since his insertion into the starting lineup five games ago.
Florida Gulf Coast (16-10, 10-3) arrives in Spartanburg having won four of its last five games, but saw its four-game winning streak snapped Saturday night with an 89-81 loss at ETSU. The Eagles are 4-8 on the road the season and have lost three of their last four road games. Bernard Thompson leads Florida Gulf Coast with 15.7 points per game, while Chase Fieler paces the Eagles with 7.4 rebounds per game.
Upstate and Florida Gulf Coast will be meeting on the hardwood for the 13th time when the two teams tipoff from the Hodge Center. Florida Gulf Coast leads Upstate 8-4 in the all-time series that dates back to the 2007-08 season. The Eagles have won three straight meetings with Upstate, which includes a 63-60 victory earlier this season from Alico Arena. Upstate is 2-3 all-time against Florida Gulf Coast inside the Hodge Center.
