Spartanburg, S.C. – Fresh off the program's first-ever win over an ACC opponent on Saturday, the USC Upstate men's basketball team looks to win its second straight game Wednesday when the Spartans travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to face Winthrop at 7 p.m. from the Winthrop Coliseum.
The Spartans held on for a thrilling 64-63 win over Virginia Tech Saturday and are looking to start a season 2-0 for the first time since the 2005-06 season. Junior guard Ty Greene led Upstate with 17 points, which included 15 in the second half, on his way to earning Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors. Greene also added five rebounds, three assists and one blocked shot.
Senior Torrey Craig added 13 points and eight rebounds, while fellow senior Ricardo Glenn chipped in with 10 points and three rebounds. Babatunde Olumuyiwa finished with nine points and five rebounds and hit the game-winning basket for the Spartans. Craig was selected as the College Sports Madness A-Sun Player of the Week for his efforts in the win at Virginia Tech.
USC Upstate and Winthrop will be meeting on the hardwood for the 16th time when the two teams face off Wednesday night. The Spartans own an 8-7 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to the 1978-79 season. It will be the first meeting between USC Upstate and Winthrop since 2009.
