Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's and women's basketball teams ushered in the 2013-14 season in style Monday night when the two teams hosted Tip Fest from the Hodge Center.

Upstate fans had their first opportunity to meet the team and were treated to an entertaining evening that featured a skills competition, the chance to win $50,000 and a dunk contest.

The evening began with the introduction of both teams and was followed with comments from women's basketball center Brittany Starling and men's head coach Eddie Payne. In the skills competition, the team comprised of Raven Jefferson, Karim Mawuenyega and one student defeated a second team consisting of Ty Greene, Maddie Herr and another student, 8-3.

Senior forward Torrey Craig amazed the crowd with three high-flying dunks that lifted him to victory over Daniel Bridges and Babatunde Olumuyiwa.

The women open play Friday at 6 p.m. at Maryland Eastern Shore, while the men's team begins its season Saturday at noon against Virginia Tech.
