Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate senior forward Torrey Craig continues to rack up preseason honors, as he was selected to the College Sports Madness All-Mid Major third team on Thursday.
Craig, who was tabbed as the Atlantic Sun preseason Player of the Year by College Sports Madness last month, is looking to become only the third player in conference history to lead the league in scoring in three consecutive seasons. Craig finished last season with an average of 17.2 points per game to go along with 6.9 rebounds per game, 63 assists, 33 steals and 25 blocked shots en route to earning a unanimous spot on the All-A-Sun first team.
The 2012 A-Sun Player of the Year, Craig ended last season with seven double-doubles and turned in 10 games in which he scored at least 20 points, including a career-high 31 in helping Upstate to a victory over UTSA.
Craig will enter the 2013-14 season needing 441 points to become the seventh player in A-Sun history to score 2,000 points, which will rank him second on the USC Upstate all-time list. The Great Falls, S.C., native is also just 27 three-pointers shy of becoming the all-time leader at USC Upstate and needs 88 to become the A-Sun all-time leader.
Craig and the Spartans open the season Nov. 9 at 12 p.m. at Virginia Tech. Upstate plays its first game of the season at the Hodge Center Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. when the Spartans host Bob Jones University.
