Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate baseball team will look for its first ASUN series win of the season this weekend as the Spartans welcome Stetson to Harley Park for a three-game series. The Spartans and Hatters will play at 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
Upstate is 17-23 after defeating Charleston Southern 5-1 on Wednesday at Harley Park. Hunter Gilbert had a team-leading three hits while four Spartan pitchers limited the Buccaneers to one run on four hits in the win. Upstate claimed the season series with Charleston Southern as a result of last night's win as well as a 10-4 victory in Lexington, S.C. on March 28. In ASUN play, Upstate is 2-7 after dropping its series at Florida Gulf Coast last weekend.
Stetson is 16-23 following a 7-3 loss at Florida State on Wednesday. The Hatters hold a 6-3 record in the ASUN after losing two of three games last weekend against Stetson. Steve Trimper is in his first season as head coach after replacing longtime head coach Pete Dunn during the winter.
The Hatters lead the all-time series 18-11 after a sweep of Upstate at Melching Field last season. In the last series at Harley Park in 2015, the Spartans dropped Friday's matchup before claiming the series with wins on Saturday and Sunday.
