Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate baseball team wraps up its seven-game road trip and plays its final non-conference road game of the season Wednesday at 4 p.m. when the Spartans head to Charleston, S.C., to take on College of Charleston from The Ballpark at Patriots Point.
Freshman right-hander Zach Mitchell (1-4, 5.20) is scheduled to start for Upstate, while College of Charleston righty Nathan Helvey (3-4, 4.05) will oppose him.
Upstate will be in search of a season sweep of the Cougars after posting a 2-1 victory April 9 from Harley Park. Spartan righty Dylan Parker threw a complete game to earn his first career victory at Upstate, allowing just one run to go along with two strikeouts. AJ Mackey delivered the game-winning RBI with a sacrifice fly in the second inning to score Daniel Seeba.
Upstate enters play following a three-game series over the weekend at ETSU that saw two Spartans continue to rewrite the record books. Senior catcher Luke Weber collected one double Saturday in game two and moved into a tie for the most doubles in school history with 53. The Spartanburg, S.C., native has eight games left in the regular season to collect one double and move into sole possession of first place.
Southpaw David Roseboom struck out five Buccaneers Saturday to become just the fourth pitcher in school history with 200 career strikeouts. He currently ranks third all-time at Upstate with 203 punchouts and has at least two more starts to try and increase that number.
Upstate hosts Jacksonville this weekend in the final Atlantic Sun series of the year from Harley Park. Game times are scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
