Diego Sist is the second person affiliated with the men’s tennis program to be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame from the men’s tennis program.
Born in Asuncion, Paraguay, Sist would become one of the most-decorated tennis players in school history, as he would earn a national ranking in all four of his seasons of his illustrious career as a member of the Rifles’ men’s tennis squad. Sisto’s career would culminate in an All-America honor and a final ranking of 15th in NCAA Division II ITA in 2006.
For his career, Sist helped the Rifles men’s tennis program compile an impressive 68-13 mark, two Peach Belt conference regular season titles, an NCAA Division II South regional tournament championship appearance in 2003, and two Mid-Atlantic Championships in 2004 and 2006.
In his senior season in 2006, Sist enjoyed his most acclaim nationally, finishing the season with an ITA No. 15 national ranking and earning ITA All-America honors. He also earned First Team All-Peach Belt Conference honors in singles for the third time.
Statistically, Sist enjoyed his finest season as a Rifle during the 2002-03 campaign, amassing an individual mark of 17-1 (.944), which ranks as the second-best single-season individual mark in school history. Sist’s inaugural season he claimed All-Peach Belt Singles honors.
For his career, Sist posted an impressive 53-21 record, which still ranks as the fourth-best individual mark in school history. Sist played all but two of his matches in his career at the No.1 or No.2 singles flight.
Sist now lives in Bethesda, Maryland, where he is the Manager of Business Development at OPNET Technologies, Inc.
