Brian Rushing of VoiceCarolinas is in his fourth year as
the public address announcer for the Spartans.
Rushing began his career in broadcasting in 2001, as a sports
play-by-play and color analyst at WGNC 1450am, while hosting the
wildly entertaining 'Rush Hour' radio show on WSGE 91.7fm.
Rushing also worked at the sports desk of the Gaston Gazette
and Shelby Star as a freelance writer.
Brian founded 'PA in a Pinch' in Western North Carolina in
2004 as the "Voice of the Mountain Lions” with Mayland
Community College in picturesque Spruce Pine, NC. That
beginning took Rushing back to his hometown of Gastonia, NC, as
public address voice for Belmont Abbey College and Charlotte
Eagles Pro Soccer.
In 2008, Rushing took on a larger, more regional footprint with
VoiceCarolinas. The broader vision has now created new
clients, such as the Gastonia Grizzlies, Wingate University, and
the occasional guest appearance in Greenville for the Drive.
In 2009, Rushing was awarded the NCAA Division II Southeast
Regional held at Lenoir-Rhyne University, as well as the Division
II Southeast Volleyball Regional at Wingate University. He
is "The Voice" of the Food Lion SAC Basketball
Tournament, as well as the Prep All Stars Holiday Classic and the
2010 Carolina Virginia Summer Collegiate All Star
Game.
In his time at Upstate, Rushing has been twice nominated for the
National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers Award,
and auditioned for the Oklahoma City Thunder (NBA) job.
While not entertaining the Hodge Center faithful, Rushing is an
avid Seattle Mariners fan that enjoys singing Christian
music and volunteering at Piedmont Community Charter
School.
The former semi-pro baseball player and high school hoops coach
still resides in Gastonia, N.C., with his loving wife of 16 years,
Jeanene, and three beautiful daughters: Bethany, Mary Beth,
and Rebekah. Bethany is a future would-be veterinarian,
while Mary Beth and Rebekah look to one day play basketball in
front of their father...IN THE HODGE!!!
