Eric English is in his fourth year as Assistant Athletic Trainer in the sports medicine department at USC Upstate. In addition to his duties in athletic training, he also serves as an instructor in the physical education department.
English has an extensive background in athletic training. He has served as the clinical coordinator for sports medicine for the North Broward Hospital System (Fla.) from 2001-006 overseeing 22 athletic trainers. In addition, he has been a teacher and athletic trainer for the Broward County Public Schools since 1997. He was the head athletic trainer at Western High School from 1997-2001 and at Cypress Bay High School from 2001-06.
Prior to moving to the southern part of Florida, English lived in Jacksonville and Ocala, Fla., from 1990-97. He was a senior staff athletic trainer for HEALTHSOUTH Rehabilitation Corporation from 1990-92 in Jacksonville before being promoted to coordinator for sports medicine for the HEALTHSOUTH outfit in Ocala from 1992-94. He returned to the HEALTHSOUTH clinic in Jacksonville from 1994-96 before serving as Interim associate athletic trainer at the University of North Florida from 1996-97.
English began his athletic training professional career as a teacher and head athletic trainer at Richmond County High School in Rockingham, N.C., from 1988-89. He moved on to the Pinehurst Rehabilitation Center in Pinehurst, N.C., from 1989-90 before moving to Jacksonville in 1990.
English returns to USC Upstate for the first time in 21 years. He began his collegiate career as a student at the University in 1982 before transferring to the College of Charleston in 1985 to complete his undergraduate degree in physical education/health. While at USC Upstate, he was the everyday athletic trainer for the department, working closely with the men's basketball and men's soccer teams. He also received specialized training at the Cleveland County Sports Medicine Center working under legendary athletic trainer Warren Ariel.
English received his bachelor's degree in 1987 from the College of Charleston and earned a master's degree in physical education/athletic training from Indiana University in 1988.
A native of Washington Court House, Ohio, he played football and wrestled for Miami Trace High School for three years. He moved with his family to Spartanburg after his junior year and graduated from Dorman High School in 1982. He was a member of the Cavalier football team and qualified for the state wrestling tournament. English and his wife, Kim, have a daughter, Sarah.
