Yvette Moore is the fifth women’s basketball player to be
inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame at USC Upstate.
Moore was a four-year starter from 1981-85 and established a career that has stood the test of time. Although she finished her career 29 years ago, she still ranks among the program’s elite players in several statistical categories.
Moore, who played for head coaches Andrea Morrison (1981-82) and Kim Buford (1982-85), owns the all-time career record with 379 made free throws. She is one of four players in the history of the program to average a double-double for her career, averaging 15.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.
Moore ranks second all-time with 932 rebounds, owning the top spot for 21 years until fellow Hall of Fame member Yakeeshia Ross broke the record in 2006. Her 10.1 rebounds per game average is second all-time behind the 11.5 of Hall of Fame member Gwen Whiteside-Proctor. She ranks fourth all-time with a 15.7 points per game scoring average, sixth with 1,443 points and seventh in made field goals.
Moore also turned in some of the all-time great seasons in the history of the program. Her 19.8 scoring average in 1984-85 is the second-highest single season mark in school history, as is her 12.0 rebounds per game average recorded during the same season.
Moore led her Lady Rifle teams in scoring in three of the four years she played and in rebounding all four years. She was an NAIA All-District Six selection in 1984, played in the 1984 District Six All-Star Game and was an honorable mention All-District Six selection in 1983.
After graduating from Upstate, Moore moved back the Midlands of South Carolina. After studying to become a paralegal, she stopped to continue her career working in logistics. She currently works for Ozburn-Hessey Logistics in Columbia, a company specializing in shipping and warehousing.
Moore has remained active in sports and has enjoyed a post-college life playing women’s and co-ed softball. She has won numerous awards playing in the various softball leagues around Columbia.
A native of Ridgeway, S.C., Moore is the proud mother of daughter, Ashley (28), and son, Andre (23). She also has two grandchildren, Zachary and Madison.
