Bill English became USC Upstate's third sports information director on February 5, 2001. He will serve in his 12th year at Upstate in 2012-13 and his third as Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations. He was promoted to Associate AD in the summer of 2010 after serving at Assistant AD for seven years.

Since coming to Upstate, English has led the transformation of the media relations office, including building a new athletics Website in 2001 and guiding the transition of the Web presence in five re-designs in the nine years since. He was named the Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Director of the Year in 2004, an award selected by his peers in the league. He received his first publication award in 2009, earning seventh-place honors in the nation for his 2008 Men's Soccer Media Guide.

Along with his promotion to Associate AD in 2010, English has assumed additional administrative responsibilities. He is a member of the Senior Athletics Administrative Staff and  is the sport administrator for men's and women's golf, softball and men's and women's tennis.

English came to Upstate after serving as the assistant sports information director at Wofford College from 1997-2001, working under Mark Cohen who is now the Director of Athletic Media Relations at TCU.

English is a 1993 graduate of Wofford with a bachelor's degree in government. Upon graduation, he worked for one year in the sports department at the Spartanburg Herald-Journal where he was a writer covering high school football and basketball and college basketball.

English left the Herald-Journal to attend graduate school at Appalachian State where he served as a graduate assistant in the sports information office. Also working as a graduate assistant in the physical education department while working on his master's degree in sport management, he was inducted into the Alpha Epsilon Lambda graduate school national honor fraternity in 1996.

English is a member of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). He worked as the official scorer for the Greenville Braves, a former Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, in 2000.

A native of Washington Court House, Ohio, English moved to Spartanburg with his family in 1981.
