Bergman will also coordinate the athletic department study hall program.  She will assist with student-athlete development initiatives such as special programming for student-athletes, Career Athletes, SAAC, etc.

Bergman came to Upstate after serving as an Academic Coach at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, while working toward a master’s degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education, which she received in May of 2011. She worked with the men’s basketball program to provide academic support and guidance for the student-athletes.

In addition to her work as an academic coach, Bergman also served as an Assistant First Year Advisor, responsible for providing professional level academic and personal advising to 30 first-year students at the university, assisting with their course selection and registration. She also taught a first-year student-athlete transition course, similar to the University 101 classes taught at Upstate, and was a Graduate Resident Director, overseeing the administration of a predominantly student-athlete residence hall.

Bergman has a long history of work in academic and personal support services. Prior to her stint at Miami, she was an intern at Bentley University where she served as an orientation intern. A native of Summit County, Colo., Bergman graduated from Colorado State with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2009. While an undergraduate student, she gained valuable experience in advising and support services working as an orientation leader, Ram welcome leader, peer mentor and student coordinator in the orientation program at the university.
